Tom Lehrer's 'A Christmas Carol'

With thanks to Gilbert B. Norman for the heads-up.

  1. Tom Lehrer is always good! Hadn't realized someone put him on You Tube. Looks like there are several of his dittys with written words posted there. Modern technology for a old matematics professor. I wonder if he is still amongst us?

  2. According to the Wikipedia entry on him, he's still around at age 80 and living in California, but he taught his last class in 2001 and stopped performing long before.

  3. He had a burst of popularity; some of his work is as topical today as it was in the 60s. I know his performances stopped, but I wonder if it was also a short window of writing stuff. I have a bunch of his CDs and they are fabulous. I hope you looked at the others that were on You Tube. Guess I will go look at the Wikipedia entry. I was raised on his original album.

  4. I love Lehrer's sarcastic nasal tenor voice and his irreverent lyrics. I know he's available now on CD and I've heard some of his songs on YouTube in the last couple of years, but did not know - or remember - this song. Thanks, Henry, for calling our attention to the Old Master this
holiday season. Tom Lehrer is as relevant today as he ever was (and he was)!
