Reconstruction, continued

In rebuilding my web site, I'm experimenting with variations on the "nameplate" -- the herald at the top of the home page -- and perhaps you will help me settle on a new one.

This is today's:

This was yesterday's:

And this was used the day before:

Of course, there will be a new one tomorrow. Maybe even the next day.

Which of these three do you like best? Please leave a comment with your thoughts. (It's OK, you can be anonymous. No need to register and reveal your identity.)

Thank you.

  2. Hi Henry,

I have to go with the sunset. It puts me more in the mood to read a book.

  3. I like the picture with the 2 - the woods make me think of your novels - or the sunset - my thoughts the same as Joe's, about the mood to read (curl up in my recliner). The first book I read of yours was The Zephyr, which train I also got to ride in 2004 (have since also read Gin Fizz, Pig, and at least 2 of your novels).

  4. I vote for the eagles.

  5. Whilst I have no particular preference for any of them I was wondering if you might consider a pic of your (or a) cabin and woods as a header. They seem to represent some of the tenor of your stories a little better to me.

  6. Henry, that's a GRIZZLY bear in the header today. There are no grizzly bears in Upper Michigan, only black bears. What are you trying to say?

  7. Thanks to all for the suggestions. There was a private message suggesting rotating all the nameplates for a while, and I think that's a good idea.

As for the grizzly, well sure, there aren't any in the UP, but we don't want the tenderfoot suckers and FIBs to know that, do we?

  8. Today (Nov. 9) the header photo was taken last June from a White Pass & Yukon train heading into a tunnel inland from Skagway, Alaska. (I did write a book about trains once.)

  9. It's Wednesday now, but I enjoy going to your site to see what picture now! You know by now that I'm a little bit of a rail fan, so loved the picture of the train, and today's, which if memory serves me right, a picture you took looking out the last car on one of your recent rail trips! Or like an alt-country song says: "The road goes on forever and the party never ends!"

  10. I can't decide...they're all fabulous! Love the train one today, but the sunset is spectacular as well. I'm a bit too ornithophobic to vote for the others, but the photography is stunning.

  11. There will be a hiatus in new banners for a few days while I take a train trip. I'll be back Monday, Nov. 15.

Ornithophobe, Melody? Not an arachnophobe, too? I think there are a few closeups of spiders in the photo archive ...
