Can anyone tell me what flower this is? I bought a bunch of them a few days ago at the supermarket for a dinner-table centerpiece, and tried out a new ring light for my camera's macro lens with them.
"Alstroemeria (syn. Alstremeria, pronounced /ˌælstrɨˈmɪəriə/),[1] commonly called the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, is a South American genus of about 50 species of flowering plants. Almost all of the species are restricted to one of two distinct centers of diversity, one in central Chile, the other in eastern Brazil. Species of Alstroemeria from Chile are winter-growing plants while those of Brazil are summer-growing. All are long-lived perennials except A. (Taltalia) graminea, a diminutive annual from the Atacama Desert of Chile."
Thanks! I've always wondered what they were, too - always seem to be in grocery bunches, and are not only pretty, but long lasting. Netagene (who hasn't been able to go anywhere on Amtrak in 4 or 5 years!) in Birmingham and at http://blindedbyinsight.blogspot.com
It's an alstroemeria!
ReplyDeleteAh, thank you, Amy!
